Meaningful projects with lasting impact for students
Network Lab

In 2012 I worked with a group of students to design and implement a networking lab that is now being used to support a variety of IT classes and outside of the classroom learning experiences. Students were able to apply their previous knowledge to construct a deeper understanding for themselves as well as provide expanded opportunities for future students in the program. I work with a colleague to support and maintain and enhance the lab. The student leader of the project co-published an article with me in Issues in Information Systems.

Cyber Forensics Lab

In 2014 following the success of building a brand new Network & Security lab, I set out to design and build a cyber forensics lab that will be dedicated to the college's existing Digital Forensics course that I currently teach. In addition I use this lab to develop other cyber Forensics courses. I taught Advanced Forensics in Fall 2014 using the new digital forensics lab focusing on EnCase, then in other semesters I have focused that course on FTK. I also developed a Mobile Forensics course centering on investigating Android and iOS devices primarily using Device Siezure. The lab was primarily funded through the Advanced CyberForensics Education grant through the National Science Foundation and Daytona State College.

Low-cost Supercomputer

This low-cost supercomputer utilizing a cluster of 10 Raspberry Pis wasled by one of my students, Shaun Franks. We began this project in the Fall 2013 semester and  he built the cluster for less than $500, used software to manage the distributed computers, and gained the computing power of a computer that would cost at least 50 times more. We co-presented our initial findings at an Undergraduate Research Symposium in Albany, Georgia in October 2013. Then we published a paper at the Southern Association for Information Systems annual conference.
