Student Clubs

Engaging students beyond the classroom.
Information Systems Security Association (ISSA)

In 2011 with the assistance of a dedicated student, I created a Central Georgia chapter of ISSA that partnered with the Metro Atlanta ISSA chapter. I served as the faculty sponsor from inception until Fall 2013, where I became a supporter and consultant. The club has been a great opportunity to allow students to network with large companies. Many students have been able to gain employment through their connections in the ISSA. The students and I have been able to volunteer with local charities, non-profits, and the Children's Hospital to enrich others lives in the community.

Association of Information Technology Students (AITS)

In 2010 I took over a the School of IT's first student club with very low membership and participation. In the first year I was able to bring membership from approcximately 10 students with two events per year toover 100 students and more than ten events in the academic year. I continued to serve as the faculty sponsor until Fall 2013, where the club had more than 200 members. In 2016 I moved away as the advisor, but I am still available to the group as a mentor.

Cyber Knights Competition Team (CKCT)

In 2014 I started a team of security students to compete in the South Eastern Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition as a part of the National CCDC. My students were able to advance all the way to the regional round where the top eight teams in the Southeastern US competed at a three-day onsite competition against highly skilled crackers. The team that won first place at the Southeastern round advanced to the National competition to win first place. The following year we were also notified that we again made it to the regional competition. In 2017 I was able to move into a senior mentor role, while two colleagues took over as coach and advisor.
